About District

Kannur is one of the 14 districts along the west coast in the state of Kerala, India. The city of Kannur is the district headquarters and gives the district its name. The old name, Cannanore, is the anglicized form of the Malayalam name "Kannur". Kannur district is bounded by Kasaragod District to the north, Kozhikode district to the south, Mahé district to the southwest and Wayanad Districtto the southeast.

As per 2011 census, population in the District is about 7.56 percentage of the total population of the State. Out of 25.23 lakhs population in the District, 8.82 lakhs persons from rural area and 16.41 lakhs from urban area. Child population in the age group 0-6 years is 274318 which is 10.87 percent to total population in the District. Rural population constitutes 34.95 percent and urban population is 65.05 percentage to total population in the District.

Arakkal Museum

Arakkal Museum is dedicated to the only Muslim royal family of Kerala, Arakkal Ali Rajas. The museum is located inside the Durbar Hall of the palace where the royal family lived and conducted gatherings with kings and nobles.
